AI UGC

AI UGC vs human creators: which should tech brands use?

AI tools can now generate a creator-style video from a product link in minutes. A presenter who doesn't exist looks into the camera, reads a script, and points at your product. No casting, no shipping, no reshoots.

So why would anyone still pay human creators? Because for most tech brands, the question isn't which is better. It's which job each one does best. This guide covers what AI UGC is good at, where human creators still win, and how to combine them.

What is AI UGC?

AI UGC is short-form video made to look like creator content, but generated with AI. It usually includes an AI presenter or voice, AI-generated scenes, and automatic captions.

Tools in this space include Krea, which offers UGC-style video generators alongside its image and video models, and Vibiz, which generates UGC-style videos, statics, and carousels from your website and can run the ads.

Where AI UGC wins

  • Speed. A batch of hook variations in minutes, not weeks.
  • Cost per variant. Once you have a subscription, extra versions cost very little.
  • Iteration. Change a script, presenter, or language with a text edit instead of a reshoot.
  • Screen-led formats. Screen recordings with an AI voiceover work well, because the product does the convincing.
  • Early testing. Useful for finding which angles are worth briefing human creators on.

Vendors make strong claims. Vibiz cites benchmarks from Stackmatix showing AI UGC ads with 15% higher CTR and 8% lower CPA than human-creator UGC across roughly 300 brands. It also notes the important caveat: ads that look visibly AI-made underperform.

Where human creators win

  • Trust. B2B buyers are sceptical. A real person who has done the job carries a credibility an avatar can't.
  • Organic reach. Platforms reward accounts with real people behind them. Brand-owned Canvas UGC accounts grow because viewers come back for the person.
  • Comments and community. A human creator can reply, react, and build a following. An avatar can't hold a conversation.
  • Authentic reactions. The over-the-top reaction hooks in our UGC hooks guide depend on a real face.
  • New ideas. Creators bring angles you wouldn't think to prompt for, drawn from their own experience and what they see working in their feeds.

The disclosure question

Realistic AI content comes with labelling rules. TikTok requires creators to label AI-generated content that shows realistic scenes or people, and Meta adds "AI info" labels to content it detects or that is self-disclosed. On top of platform rules, UK and US advertising law says ads must not mislead. An AI presenter who implies they are a real customer with real experience of your product is a problem.

In practice: label AI-generated presenters, never present an avatar as a real customer testimonial, and keep claims to what the product actually does. Our UGC disclosure guide covers the wider rules.

How to combine them

The strongest programmes use both:

  1. Use AI to test angles. Generate 20 hook variants cheaply and see which messages get clicks in paid.
  2. Brief humans on the winners. Give creators the proven angles and let them make them their own.
  3. Let creators build the accounts. Human creators post to brand-owned accounts and grow an audience you own.
  4. Use AI to extend what works. Turn a winning human video into cut-downs, new captions, languages, and formats.
  5. Keep the face human where trust matters. Testimonials, founder content, and LinkedIn should always be real people.

What we recommend for B2B and tech

If your product needs to be trusted before it's tried, lead with human creators and use AI for speed around them. If you're a low-cost, self-serve tool testing messages at volume, AI UGC can carry more of the load, as long as it's labelled honestly.

Regen runs human-led Canvas UGC programmes for SaaS, AI, and tech companies, and uses AI tools where they save time without costing trust. See real campaigns in UGC Ads Examples, find out about our creator partnerships service, or book a strategy call.

AI UGC FAQ

Is AI UGC cheaper than human UGC?

Per video, yes, by a wide margin. Total cost depends on how much editing and quality control you need, and on whether the videos convert.

Does AI UGC work on TikTok?

It can in paid campaigns, especially screen-led formats. For organic growth on brand-owned accounts, human creators build audiences far more reliably.

Do I have to label AI UGC?

Label realistic AI-generated people and scenes under platform rules, and never present an AI presenter as a real customer.

Will AI replace UGC creators?

It will replace some low-end production. It won't replace creators who bring ideas, reactions, and a real relationship with an audience.
